Best of ITs on Tour
Best of ITs on Tour is a new initiative of Theaterzaken Via Rudolphi (TVR) in cooperation with ITs Festival Amsterdam. Due to the upcoming budget cuts in the cultural field, the future development of young theatre talents is at risk. Even though both the ministry for culture and the municipality of Amsterdam state that talent development will be an important factor taken into account with the decisions they have make, the theatre production companies – usually the first step into the field for young theatre makers – are already facing the largest cuts of all.
With the Best of ITs on Tour TVR and ITs take responsibility and fill part of the gap that young performance artists will be facing shortly. This tour will show a selection of the best pieces the Dutch drama schools have to offer. During ITs Festival Amsterdam 2011 Marie-Anne Rudolphi and Maarten van der Cammen selected two beautiful and moving performances: Gaan by Fleur van den Berg and Vertreksvergunning by George Tobal. During the next edition of ITs they will select another 1 or 2 performances.
In fall 2012 the tour starts in the Toneelschuur Haarlem. We are aiming on a tour of at least 20 shows, 25 if possible. Other theatres that have already been confirmed are Theater aan het Spui (Den Haag), Lux (Nijmegen) and Schouwburg Amstelveen. The tour will finish in Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam. Every show will comprise all three or four performances, each of which is about 30 minutes long. In this way the audience gets a mini ITs Festival – the very best of ITs – in one show.
